Is this heat pump noise normal?

Heat pumps make some noise, especially in cold weather. It's normal to hear:

• a whoosh or hiss during a defrost cycle, sometimes with a little steam from the unit
• the fan speeding up or slowing down

If you hear something new or unusual – such as grinding, banging or rattling – contact your installer and copy in upgrades@heatgeek.com.
